Our trip to Canyonlands National Park
There are three sections to Canyonlands National Park
Island in the Sky
The Maze
The Needles
Our visit was to Island in the Sky today
I liked the way the rock formations were forced up by nature.

| Jan and me at the rim of the Upheaval Dome, our first hike of the day. |
She hardly looks like his Mom.
This shot was taken on the way to Murphy Point.
Here we are at Murphy Point looking over the canyon.
Another view further north.
Nice picture of Jan at the point.
This picture was freaking out Mom.
She actually started crying and could no longer enjoy her time at the point.
I took this picture to show the green rocks we collected.
It didn't turn out so great.
Our final destination of the morning was at Mesa Arch.
There was a steep drop off right at the edge.
You couldn't stand under the arch because there was no floor.
Later tonight we're coming back to view the sunset at Dead Horse Point State Park.
We're BACK!
We went to the hotel and took a break and now we're back to see the sunset at Dead Horse Point State Park. Here are the pics to prove it. :)
On the way, I was impressed with these lines and how they tilt downward.
Panoramic shot of what we saw at Dead Horse Point State Park.
That's the Colorado River you see at the base of the canyon.
This is a homemade panoramic.
This is from the west...
to the south...
And finally, to the east of the canyon.
Then I asked for a quick photo shoot of my hiking compradres.
We found a nice little niche to enjoy the sunset.
One more shot of the canyon before the sun sets.
Here's our little corner of the world where we enjoyed cheese and crackers and a mudslide.
AND NOW...
the star of the show.
I always get carried away with sunsets.
They change every minute.
The sunset finished over the canyon and then we noticed a "flare up" over the east rim.
We ran over to the east rim, and captured these amazing pictures...
Hard to believe this is the same time of day as the sunset shots, but it is.
And then head back to Canyonlands National Park to view the dark sky at
Green River Overlook about 10pm and stayed until 10:45pm.
It was pitch black tonight, so I had to turn on my flash.
Here's what I found in the darkness.
Two stargazers, actually three, but the third one was taking the picture.
There's his hat.
I couldn't capture what we saw this night, but I did take a picture and captured 1 (one) star.
I tried to find it in the star chart, but went to sleep instead.

Mom does look very good in those pics... too young to be bens mom!
